APRIL IS HEART AWARENESS MONTH
Heartworm disease is a potentially fatal disease infecting unprotected dogs, cats, and ferrets. It’s caused by foot-long worms living in the heart, lungs and blood vessels.
Heartworms come from mosquitoes, and in Florida, our pets are in danger year-round. Once infected, treatment is costly and very difficult on your pet.
FOJA urges everyone to give your pets heartworm preventive every month. If cost is a barrier, visit our resource page for options in the Jacksonville FL area.
30% of dogs entering the shelter system are heartworm positive. When you donate to FOJA, you’re helping save the lives of these dogs!
