DONOR SPOTLIGHT - RICK SHOUP
We are highlighting Rick Shoup as this quarter’s FOJA supporter. Rick has been part of the FOJA family since 2013 when he adopted Chang from ACPS - a senior dog that was heartworm positive. FOJA assisted with the cost of Chang’s heartworm treatment. Since then, Rick continued to adopt senior dogs from ACPS, never hesitating to adopt a heartworm positive one.
In 2019, Rick and his dog Gracie underwent cancer treatment at the same and were a great support for each other. Through all of this, Rick continues to support FOJA through monthly donations to pay it forward to the next heartworm positive dog that needs treatment.
Thank you Rick for all you do for FOJA and the shelter senior dogs!
Rick and Gracie supported each other through cancer treatment.

BE A KITTEN FOSTER HERO!
Kitten season is officially underway! Did you know that orphaned kittens under 1 pound can’t stay in the shelter overnight?
Our network of foster heroes helps us care for the hundreds of underage kittens that enter the shelter each year. The shelter has taken in so many kittens already that most of our fosters are full.
Every day the shelter has kittens that need to leave the shelter before they close that day. Stop by in person at 2020 Forest Street or email acpsfosters@coj.net to get started right away.
The kittens need you! Join the ACPS foster life-saving team. Become a foster hero today!

HAVE A FARM, WAREHOUSE OR WORKSHOP? MEET FRIDA!
ACPS's Wild Whiskers program gives poorly socialized cats like Frida (above) a second chance at life. Frida is currently available for adoption and looking for place she can call home.
Not all cats make good indoor house pets, but they still need homes! When poorly socialized cats are turned in to the shelter, it can be difficult to find them a new home, but we still think they deserve a chance. ACPS's Wild Whiskers program was started to help find these cats homes where they can live out their lives in safety. Examples of suitable outdoor spaces for these cats are farms, barns, garages, workshops, and warehouses away from busy streets. Cats adopted through Wild Whiskers are healthy, spayed/neutered, rabies vaccinated and the adoption fee is waived (the $20 city license fee may still apply).
Currently available for adoption is Frida, a shy, independent cat that would prefer a quiet place to spend her days. She has been at the shelter since April 14th and really need to be free from a cage. She is blind in one eye but otherwise very healthy, spayed and vaccinated. If you have a place for her, ACPS would love to hear from you. Please email Jaxpets@coj.net or visit the shelter in person.

HEART DOG - MAISY
FOJA gave Maisy a chance at life and now she is going to pay it forward as an Emotional Support Animal for her new owner.
Maisy was adopted July 2020 from Animal Care & Protective Services - heartworm positive. Maisy was treated through FOJA’s heartworm treatment program. Here is Maisy’s fur-mom’s thank you to the FOJA supporters for making her heartworm treatment happen!
"THANK YOU and FOJA so very much for what you have done for Maisy. She recently tested heartworm negative. It is only because of FOJA’s help that this is possible. So many times, I kept vigil over her when she was sick that I honestly thought she would die. She is a beautiful Blue Tick Coonhound and weighed only 30 lbs when I adopted her. She is now 56 lbs and a whole different dog. I am blessed to have been in contact with FOJA. There are no accidents in God's world. Maisy is about to be registered as an Emotional Support Animal and is perfect for the job!"

BUSTER - FROM STRAY TO FAMILY MEMBER
Buster and his feline friend.
Buster was found as a stray on Mayport Road as a very young puppy. FOJA board member Carolyn Edwards was contacted to help with him. The person who found him had named him Bear and offered to foster him until we could find him a home. Of course, FOJA stepped up to keep him out of the shelter, getting him neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. One day, Karen Stackpole and her family saw one of our postings about Bear and contacted us. Carolyn did a home visit with the family and knew right away she had found the perfect home for Bear (now known as Buster).
"Seven years ago, my family and I decided we wanted to adopt a dog. We were very fortunate to find Buster through FOJA. Buster is the most amazing dog! My three children loved him the minute they saw him. He is very friendly with people and other animals. He loves to run and go for rides and as you can see by the photo, he loves to snuggle. He is definitely a member of our family and we all love him to pieces." -Karen Stackpole
When you donate to FOJA, you’re helping animals find their furever homes.

In honor of National Rescue Dog Day, we invited you to share your rescue story (and photos) in the comment, and you showed the world rescue animals are awesome! Below are just a sampling of the wonderful posts on our Facebook page.
"Rescue dog Roxy. Found her at an adoption event almost 4 years ago. She was rescued from the streets, was 25 pound lighter, heartworm positive, and didn't really know how to dog. She was anxious about everything, all the time. FOJA helped with treating the heartworm. Now she is heartworm free, and the best cuddler. Roxy is definitely living her best life." - Jennifer Kahler Seitz
"I don’t even know where to begin. I have 3 rescue dogs!! The first was from ACPS and 2nd from Jax Humane, my 3rd was from ACPS and was heartworm positive. I was leaning towards not adopting because of the heartworm status. LET ME TELL YOU HOW GRATEFUL I AM THAT I TOOK THAT CHANCE!!!! Our baby has now been heartworm negative for over a year!! The treatments worked!!! THANK YOU FOJA for helping out with the cost of treatments!!! Wendy is one of the best girls I have ever had!!!! She is so SWEET and I could not imagine what our lives would be like if I would have passed her by based on heartworm status!!!!" - Kelly Simpson
"Fuzzy adopted me 5 years ago. FOJA helped with his treatment and Sue Towler fostered him until he was well enough to adopt. Best thing that ever happened to me." -Juanita Jones

TRAVIS GIBBON DONATES TO FOJA AS A THANK YOU TO HIS CLIENTS
FOJA has been absolutely blessed to have Travis Gibbon in our corner, both as a top donor and as an advocate for our mission. Travis is a Senior Loan Officer at SWBC Mortgage Corporation in Jacksonville Beach. Many years ago he was introduced to FOJA and how we support Duval County’s animal shelters, including those at the Beaches. An active community professional and avid animal lover, he quickly saw a way to combine help for the animals with promoting the FOJA name. Every month Travis makes a MOST generous donation to us in the name of every client who closed a loan in the previous four weeks. (And because his rating is “5 star” that’s a lot of loans AND donations!) FOJA then sends an acknowledgment to the clients and takes the opportunity to introduce ourselves and our programs. Win/win! Over the years Travis has donated thousands of dollars and spread the FOJA name far and wide. So, THANK YOU Travis Gibbon! And all those animals thank you too.
FOJA is a 100% volunteer organization, so donations from supporters like you go directly to the animals.
Check out Travis's post on Facebook!

FOJA SUCCESS STORY - JASPER
Most animals come into the shelter through no fault of their own. This was the case with Jasper. He not only got the short stick and ended up as a stray at the ACPS, but it was determined he also had some congenital abnormalities. Being born with these abnormalities, he has limited mobility. Thanks to your donations and support, we are able to assist the shelter in offering him acupuncture and physical therapy to increase his mobility. This should set him up for success in his forever home and help him live a long happy life. Each session we are able to offer is one step closer to Jasper being a happy, healthy pup!
